Many students encounter culture shock when they arrive at a new country or town.  The goal of this mobile app is to help new students on campus settle in quicker by giving them a quick overview of where everything is. To help lessen the impact, this app is designed so that users can use to find categories of places with filters. These filters allow the users to see very quickly what restaurants or coffee shops are near them to help plan out their day.

Mind Map

After exploring our topic in groups, we created a mindmap to understand the root of the problem. The topic we were assigned to was “culture.’ When we were trying to mind map the concerns surrounding this topic, we came up with some ideas including cultural identity, cultural diversity, awareness, etc. The we each decided to choose a specific topic to focus on.

More Mind Maps

I chose the topic of culture shock because many people deal with that including myself over the past summer. I wanted to help students adjust to their environment faster by weakening the blow of culture clash, as it may take a physical and mental toll on them.

Methods

For this design project, we used various research methods to define how we want to approach the design of the app. The most effective research methods for me was the low-fidelity prototype and user feedback after conducting user testing.
